Rekindling a Love Story: The Inaugural “Saints & Porters” Convention

The bond between “Saints” and “Porters” has officially crossed the ocean and taken root in North America. In a historic first, the St. John’s Old Students Association North America joined forces with the Archbishop Porter Girls Old Students Association (APPSA) North America for their inaugural joint convention in Atlanta, Georgia.

Described by organizers as the rekindling of a “love story” that began during their school days in Ghana, the weekend was more than just a reunion—it was a powerful mission of giving back.

A Weekend of Purpose and Celebration

The celebration, held in mid-July 2025, balanced high-energy social events with meaningful advocacy for their alma maters:

Fundraising for the Future: The central goal of the gathering was to raise funds for a joint solar project to benefit both schools, ensuring a sustainable energy future for current students.

Atlanta Highlights: Attendees kicked off the weekend with a Friday Meet & Greet, followed by Saturday business meetings and a cultural tour of the World of Coca-Cola.

The Main Event: Saturday night featured a grand Dinner Dance where alumni from various year groups—most notably the “1985 Ladies”—showcased their style and school pride.

Reflection and Fellowship: The convention concluded on Sunday with a joint memorial service followed by a “fabled picnic” to close out the festivities.

Building a Global Legacy

This joint venture in Georgia marks a significant milestone for the North American chapters. While APPSA prepares for its massive 60th Anniversary Homecoming in Takoradi, Ghana (October 2025), this Atlanta event proved that the “Porter Magic” is thriving abroad.

The success of the Atlanta convention has already set the stage for the next chapter of this partnership, with organizers already looking forward to the DMV 2026.
