Archbishop Porter Girls’ Secondary School has long stood as a beacon of academic excellence, moral integrity, and leadership development for young women in Ghana. As the school continues to grow and evolve, so do the needs of its vibrant student body. Today, with an enrollment of over 3,000 students, we face a pressing challenge that affects the daily life, safety, and unity of our school community: the lack of a suitably sized assembly hall.
The current hall, originally built to accommodate less than 500 students, can no longer serve its intended purpose. School-wide assemblies must now be held in shifts or in outdoor spaces, often under harsh weather conditions. This compromises the ability to bring the entire student body together for important events such as religious services, educational seminars, cultural celebrations, and examinations. It also hinders the cultivation of school spirit and collective identity that such gatherings inspire.
Beyond functionality, the overcrowded conditions pose health and safety risks and place unnecessary strain on infrastructure and staff coordination. In an institution that fosters discipline and excellence, students deserve a space where they can all come together comfortably, safely, and with dignity.
Archbishop Porter Past Students Association (APPSA) in consultation with the school and its stakeholders, deemed it fit to put up a new Assembly Hall. As members of APPSA, the North America community agrees with such a decision. Through this awareness, we are appealing to all and sundry — government agencies, alumni, parents, philanthropists, and corporate bodies to support the construction of a new, modern assembly hall that reflects the scale and stature of Archbishop Porter Girls’ Secondary School. Your support will not only enhance the school’s infrastructure but also help shape the environment in which tomorrow’s female leaders are nurtured.
Let us come together to provide a space worthy of the aspirations, potential, and unity of our girls.
The future is already here – and it needs a hall to gather in.
Kindly reach out if you are touched to support this worthy cause – nothing is too small.
